Press Releases are a great marketing tool. Before the internet became what it is today, we out-shined our competition and became a familiar face in our community through the use of the FREE press release. While many agents paid for ads in home magazines and the local papers, we spent our time building our name by getting Free press coverage in the local papers and radio stations.

You ask yourself this question:

What is newsworthy about this event?

How can I spin this event to become something the papers will want to give me free press time and space for.

In fact, for most of our careers in real estate and in the Tae Kwon Do school business - this was the way that we tooted our own horns. This is a big part of self promotion in a very classy and professional way and also in a way that creates interest from sellers and buyers.

We became so proficient at presenting and preparing Press Release Distribution Service that it became a very successful weekly project. Each week we would figure out what we could go to or be a part of that was newsworthy, then go to that event, take lots of photos at that event with prominent people and then create the press releases, get the film developed at one hour photo shops, hand address the letters to the right departments at the different local and regional newspapers, radio stations and television stations.

Of course, the editors did not pick up every story but for years, we would get at least one story per month picked up. After the story is printed in the newspaper we would order reprints and send those in our expired packages to sellers and keep copies in our press kits.

Here is how to write a press release.

  1. Create your Press Release plan on a calendar.\
  2. Choose the activities you will be participating in or creating that are newsworthy.
  3. Add those to your appointment book and calendar.
  4. Create a press release template.
  5. Add the regular contact information and all items that do not change and save your template.
  6. Take lots of photos at your events. There is nothing worse than taking a few photos and you hate the way you look in all of them. The more you take, the better chances of finding one you like.
  7. Address a year supply of envelopes to the local media, newspapers, radio news stations and local TV news stations. Address them by hand. Leave a space for who you will be sending it to because the person who is the business editor might get moved to a different department or get laid off, etc.
  8. As the 2010 year progresses, fill in your press release template with the newsworthy events.
  9. Snail mail your press releases out right away. The news people like fresh news. Don't let it get stale or your chances for publication diminish a lot.
  10. Take the same press release and publish it on your blog just like we did here announcing our new NAR SFR designation. You will be surprised how many newspaper editors are searching the blogosphere for interesting newsworthy events. When you publish it just like a press release, see our example, they will be familiar with the format.
  11. Make sure that when you post it online on your blog that you add your hyper links to your website or other authoritative sites that would interest the media.
  12. You can then send your press release online to many different news outlets in your niche and even the traditional ones that you just snail mailed to.

When you write a Video Press Release Service for the off-line media you are trying to catch the interest of the editors.

When you write a press release for the web you have to also write for the search engines.
